Something to Be
By Rob Thomas

Well I've decided to update since a lot has been going on in my life lately.

First and foremost... I started my new job yesterday!  It was pretty boring at first because I have a bunch of computer stuff to do.  There are 33 different areas that I have to read about, then test about for my training.  Well, each of these sections take at least 20-45 minutes to do!  Ughh... I have like a month to complete all of them, but I am also supposed to be shadowing someone to actually learn my job.  We'll see what they have me doing tomorrow.  I like it so far, so that's a good thing.  It's going to take a lot of adjusting for me to go from working 3 half days a week to 5 full days and 2 half days.  Oh well.  It will be nice to actually have money.  Whoo hoo!

Rob Thomas on Tuesday night was awesome!  Teri and I had so much fun.  We got there early enough to see the opening act and that turned out to be very fortunate for us.  We found out that she was this girl named Anna Nalick.  We had no idea who she was, so we figured she was going to suck it up big time.  So she starts, and we actually really liked her.  About halfway through her act, she started talking about filming her second video and how it was going to be on VH1 and MTV soon.  That got Teri and I really confused.  We figured that if she already had one video out that we would have heard about her.  Well, about two songs later she says,"Now, I know all of you know this song so sing along with me."  And then she starts singing "Breathe (2am)."  Teri and I love that song, so then we were all excited and loved her even more.  It was cool!  And of course, Rob Thomas was amazing, as always!  I just love him.  He was such a funny guy and so entertaining to watch.  He even sang some Matchbox 20 songs which was cool.  All in all, it was an awesome night!

In other news, Nick and I might be moving out as soon as two months from now.  My dad has been talking to me about it a lot this past week.  What he wants to do, is buy a house and have Nick and I rent it from him.  We told him that we wouldn't be able to move out until sometime this summer so he should start looking sometime this spring.  Well, he ended up finding a house that he really likes that's for sale now.  So what he proposed is, Nick and I move in after the closing (which would be in like late January or early February) and live there until this summer for like $200/month.  His one condition was though, that we paint the inside, which isn't bad because I love to paint.  I guess the lady who is selling it has lived there since 1954 when it was made and some of the rooms are still lime green.  lol.  So, we will see how this pans out.  I really, really want it to work out!

Well, that's about all I've got.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Edit: About moving out. Nick and I are actually looking from someone who wants to move out sometime early summer/late spring.  Once we have to actually start paying the real rent, Nick and I probably won't be able to afford it on our own.  So what would happen is, whomever moved in with is would get like the whole basement to themselves.  They would, of course, have free use of the kitchen and all that but they would also have their own private area as well.  We don't want anyone who is expecting to have parties all the time though.  We don't mind the occasional one, but I'm thinking that every week would get a little old.  lol.  Well, let me know if this interests you, or anyone you know.

Well this week has been extremely long and busy!

On Tuesday I worked 9 hours watching 3 girls.  After work, I came to my parents' house to say goodbye to my family before they left for the week.  Then, Nick and I started staying here.

On Wednesday, I worked 15 hours (9-12).  Boy, was that a long day!

On Thursday, Nick and I had to wake up early for his Lasik appointment.  It wasn't so bad since I got to be with him almost the whole time instead of sitting in the waiting area for him.  We got home from that around 10:45.  I dropped Nick off the ran out to pick up his prescription and lunch.  After lunch, we took a 3 1/2 hour nap.  That was nice!  His surgery seemed to go really well and his vision had already improved.  He has the usual side effects, but the doc says everything is great!  That evening was our first night of bolwing league.  Nick wasn't able to attend so we had a sub for him.  It will be fun because, with the exception of Nick, the rest of my team is from my volleyball team.  Bowling was a lot of fun!  I didn't do so well, but eh, oh well.  We have decided to call our team T.H.A.B.  If you are able to guess what that stands for, you get a prize.  No, for real.  It's really tough so you deserve something if you actually get it... except for you: Nick, Lindsey, Mindy, possibly Andrea (if Lindsey tells you), and anyone else from my team.  lol.

Today, I worked 8 hours again.  And now pretty soon it's off to poker.  I'll have to let you know how I do later.  It's exciting because we get to see Al tonight too.  Whoo hoo!

This weekend, Nick and I will be heading up to Walker to check out the old cabin that Nick's family used to rent in the summer.  That should be fun.  We may be staying at my cabin Saturday night but we aren't sure yet.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Austin's football game was super exciting tonight!  The other team scored a touchdown in the first quarter but missed the extra point.  So then the second quearter goes by and we still didn't score.  The third quarter goes by and we still didn't score.  Finally towards the end of the fourth quarter we scored a touchdown.  Now all they had to do was get the extra point and we knew we had won the game.  But they missed that so the game was going into overtime.  Overtime for them is college-style except they put the ball on the 10 yard line.  Well the other team got the ball first and we ended up pushing them all the way back to the 20 yard line.  Then it was our turn.  For our first three downs, we slowly but surely got closer to the endzone.  So it was the fourth down... the play started and Austin ran the ball into the endzone for the win.  It was so awesome!

In other news, Nick and I will be staying at my parents' house starting tomorrow to watch my dog.  Today we were asked by Lindsey and another girl, Erin, from my volleyball team to join a bowling league.  It starts this Thursday and runs through April.  I'm so excited.  It should be fun.  Nick, unfortunately, won't be able to come this Thursday because he is getting his Lasik done on Thursday.  And I think that's about it.

This weekend was soooo much fun!  Nick and I drove down to Cannon Falls on Friday night and stayed there for the weekend.  On Friday, we just kinda hung out with Kent and Robyn (my aunt and uncle).  Nick and Kent watched the Gopher hockey game in the basement, while Robyn and I talked upstairs for a long time.  I like our conversations.

On Saturday they left early for Stillwater leaving Nick and me alone with Trenton for the rest of the weekend.  After I got ready, Trent and I went for a walk and to the park by their house while we waited for Nick to get ready.  Once Nick was ready it was time to head out to the Minnesota Zoo.  We got a little lost heading there and took the scenic route through Farmington (we had never been there before), but we did make it.  The zoo was so much fun!  All three of us had a blast.  Let me tell you, that kid has so much energy.  He loves the fishtanks.  The whole time we were around them he kept saying, "Fissshhh." and making swimming motions with his hands.  I'll have to get some pics up of him as soon as I get around to it.  After the zoo we headed back to Cannon Falls and ordered pizza for dinner.  If you are ever in the area, you have to try Dudley's Pizza.  Soooo good!  Saturday evening, Nick watched the Gopher hockey game again on the big screen downstairs while Trent and I played upstairs.  After Trenton went to bed, Nick and I hung out then went to bed.

Today was much like yesterday except we didn't go to the zoo.  We had breakfast, went for a walk to the park, and just played.  I swear, every time I hang out with that kid, I fall in love with him more and more.  He is just so adorable and polite.  He just turned two and he is already so polite.  He constantly says please and thank you and he even knows to pick up after himself already.  It's just too cute!  Nick and I agree that we want our kid to be just like him... when that time comes.  We even contemplated kidnapping him this weekend.  But then we talked to Kent and Robyn and we decided that we would wait until after he was potty trained.  lol.

This week, Nick and I will be staying at my parents' house to watch my dog.  My family is heading down to the Ozarks in Arkansas to stay in the city where my parents own two properties.  They want to get to know the town before they build one of their retirement homes down there.  So yeah... hopefully I will be able to update sometime this week.  Hope you all have a great week!

Well, now it's been almost two weeks since I have updated and I have actually been doing stuff so I felt it was time to update.

Last Friday night was poker and guess what... I WON!  Whoo hoo!  That was pretty exciting.  I ended up beating our friend Lucas, and he would not let it go.  For the rest of the night he kept making me play heads up with him until he won at least one time.  The funny thing was, we had to play like another 15 or so hands before he finally won.  At first he kept putting money down on the hands so I got another $10 off of him.  It was pretty funny.

Last weekend we all went up to my cabin to take out our docks and boats and get it ready for winter.  We'll still be going up there when we can to snowmobile and stuff, but we couldn't leave that stuff out any longer.  It was a fun weekend, but a lot of work.  We went out to eat on Saturday night which is always fun.  On Sunday it was mostly more work then coming home.

Speaking of snowmobiling... did you know that now, if you are under 30, you have to get a permit to drive a snowmobile?!  How annoying is that?  I guess you have to get this special cd in order to study for the test, then you have to pay $15 to take it online.  The instructor of my brother's class said that the test is extremely hard!  And, if you don't have a permit and they pull you over, it's a $500 fine.  So whoo hoo.  You would think it's a little harder to drive a car than a snowmobile and in my opinion the license test wasn't that hard, but oh well.  Nothing I can do about it.  I'll have to get it taken care of before we get snow so I can drive my snowmobile.

On Sunday night, I went over to Dan and Jes' again for another mini-poker tourny while Nick stayed home to work on homework and watch The West Wing.  We played five card draw and let me tell you, we are never playing that again.  It took forever!!  It took like an hour and a half before the first person (Dan) was knocked out.  Then Carl and Lucas went out right after him.  After that it was down to Tim, Jes, Chad, and me and that lasted a LONG time again.  It just got to be so boring because none of us were getting any hands and it took forever.  But finally it got down to me and Tim, which didn't last long.  Tim won and I came in second.  So it was a good weekend for poker for me.

Tuesday night was our last volleyball games.  We won all three games in the first match!  Whoo hoo!  (The other team didn't show up.  lol.)  So in between games went into the bar and ate dinner and drank... lol.  It was fun.  Lindsey was completely trashed.  And Andrea, who is only 20 I might add, was buying shots for me, Lindsey, and Erin all night.  They didn't even card her once.  I think they assumed that since she was with us, and they know us there, she was 21.  It was funny and interesting trying to play our 9:30 game.  I was a little drunk, Lindsey was gone!, and Erin was a little drunk.  lol.

Austin's football team is doing very well.  They played their first play-off game on Wednesday and won 12-6.  They now play again on Monday night.  Austin scored a touchdown and made some pretty good tackles so it was a good night.

Last night, Nick and I headed down to Club Three Degrees with Dan, Jes, and Chad to check out Colin's band's (Five. Small. Worlds.) final show.  He plays in a punk (I think...) Christian band.  They are really good and it was an awesome show!  We had so much fun!  I can't wait to check out the new band that Colin is in.  They are starting in November.

This weekend, Nick and I are heading down to Cannon Falls to watch my two year old cousin all weekend.  I'm super excited for that.  I don't get to see him very much and he is so adorable so it should be a fun weekend... for me.  lol.  Nick is going to bring his homework.

And that's about it.  The next couple of weeks will be busy so I will hopefully have a lot to write about.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
